Celebrate!

A steady stream of students moved through Wirtz Hall Atrium on March 19, drawn by tables of information, conversations with faculty and the chance to explore what the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) has to offer. The “Celebrate CHHS” event brought together programs, student organizations and departments in a single space designed for discovery and connection.

About 60 students attended the event, engaging with representatives from nine student organizations and 12 academic departments and programs across the college.

“The atmosphere was welcoming and energetic,” said Alex Blake, a CHHS advisor who helped coordinate the event. “There was a sense of curiosity and excitement as students explored CHHS programs and student organizations in a low-pressure environment. Overall, attendees were engaged, enthusiastic and motivated to learn and contribute to the CHHS community.”

Blake said the goal of the event is to help students better understand academic pathways while also building relationships that extend beyond the classroom.

“Events like this are important because they help students explore majors and student organizations, connect with faculty and peers and feel a stronger sense of belonging within the college,” Blake said. “By highlighting opportunities beyond the classroom in a fun, interactive setting, these events encourage engagement, support student success and build a vibrant CHHS community.”

For many students, the event offered a chance to discover new opportunities and consider different academic and career directions in an informal setting.

“I loved being able to connect with and meet new people through Celebrate CHHS,” said student Sengshavanh Xaypharath. “There were so many clubs and organizations that are all so welcoming. I encourage anyone to take a chance, try something new and join one.”

Others said the event helped them better understand the range of academic and professional paths available within the college.

“I enjoy the diversity in the booths,” said student George Hidalgo. “It allowed me to communicate and ask questions on their individual specialties. I acquired a better understanding on the myriads of career opportunities for public health major.”

The event highlighted both academic programs and student involvement opportunities, creating a space where curiosity and connection could drive exploration of future possibilities within CHHS.
