NCLEX results rise dramatically

The gold standard metric for nursing program quality is the first-time pass rate its graduates achieve on the national licensing exam (NCLEX). NIU School of Nursing 2016 average  score was 92 percent, exceeding the national and state averages of 85 percent.

School averages are released quarterly. For 2017’s first quarter, NIU’s nursing students had a 98.4 percent pass rate, setting the program on the path for another increase in 2017.

Jan Strom, Chair of the School of Nursing, attributes the improved pass rates to our nursing students hard work and the staff’s dedication to a comprehensive plan. That plan includes using a predictive computer-based testing system throughout the curriculum, and using program assessment to identify areas for improvement.
