Congratulations to NIU audiology student, Chris Bechtel, who presented his capstone research project on April 1 at the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) annual conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Bechtel’s project focused on attempting to improve access to vestibular evaluation care for individuals who have high degrees of hearing loss or who are deaf. ![]()
Vestibular evaluation is a series of tests that are administered when individuals experience dizziness, vertigo or imbalance.
“By improving the testing procedures, I am hoping to improve the accuracy of test results and ultimately lead to better healthcare outcomes for these individuals,” Bechtel said.
A third-year student, Bechtel was one of five research projects selected to be part of the Student Research Forum at the AAA conference. The forum is meant to highlight and celebrate the research endeavors of audiology students during the academic year.
