Beverly Henry
Beverly Henry earned her bachelor’s degree in dietetics, nutrition and food science from NIU in 1983. This month, she begins her next chapter when she retires after a 21-year career in the College of Health and Human Sciences.
“I appreciated working with great colleagues here in the college and across campus, and I learned a lot from the individuals I worked with in every role I held,” said Henry.
Henry worked as a clinical dietitian before earning her master’s in medical dietetics from University of Illinois-Chicago in 1989 and doctoral degree in higher education from Loyola University in 2003.
She has held roles in the college as an assistant professor, professor, associate dean and interim dean. In addition, she was the founding director of the Ph.D. in Health Sciences program.
Henry’s passion for health and human science education and the students NIU serves is evident. She worked tirelessly developing programs that support the college’s mission and was instrumental in bringing the Northeast Illinois Area Health Education Center (AHEC) to NIU and developing the current pre-health program.
“I very much appreciated Beverly’s insights and guidance as we transitioned leadership for the college,” said Dean Kelly Fiala said. “We wish her well as she begins her well-earned retirement.”
A reception to honor Henry takes place Aug. 29 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Wirtz Hall conference room, suite 227. All faculty, staff and students are invited to stop by for cake and celebration.
The Weidinger Henry Ph.D. in Health Sciences Research Award fund supports students’ scholarly endeavors in the Ph.D. in Health Sciences program at NIU. Contributions can be made at go.niu.edu/WH-PhdScholarship.
