2025 Nurse Educator Award

Two NIU School of Nursing faculty members were named as 2025 Nurse Educator Fellows by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE).

Elizabeth Moxley and Suzanne Mullis join other nurse educators  in the 2025 class who were selected based on their accomplishments, contributions to the nursing program, and efforts to advance equity and diversity in nursing education.

“This honor recognizes Dr. Moxley and Dr. Mullis’ exceptional dedication to nursing education and their significant contributions to our School of Nursing,” said Kari Hickey, chair, NIU School of Nursing. Their commitment to excellence and passion for teaching have made a profound impact on our students and the future of healthcare.”

The IBHE Nurse Educator Fellowship, which includes a $10,000 award, was established to help retain well-qualified nursing faculty by supplementing their salaries at universities that grant nursing degrees.

Mullis said she is honored to be recognized by the IBHE.

“The money for this award is going to assist me in becoming a better nurse educator,” Mullis said. “I  strive to provide our students with the best foundation possible on their journey to becoming nurses. One specific goal I have is to attain the distinction of Certified Nurse Educator. I am also looking forward to attending conferences so that I can network and learn from other educators.”

Moxley shared the sentiment.

“This award will enhance research opportunities by providing me with additional professional development funds for conferences and supplies,” Moxley said. “In addition, it will benefit me by providing additional resources to get a nursing educator certification.”
