Let’s celebrate!

More than 50 current and future Huskie students and two dozen exhibitors joined in the festivities during the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) Celebrate event held on March 20. Coordinated by CHHS advisor Anthony Gómez and the CHHS Advising team, the celebration brought together faculty, staff and students for an informative afternoon that showcased the people and programs from within the college.

“The most impactful part of the event was the number of activities there were,” said student Emerson Gaines, secretary of the CHHS Student Advisory Committee (SAC). “Each booth had something extremely valuable to offer. I think events like this help create a community!”

Elizabeth Ochoa, a student majoring in communicative disorders, shared the sentiment.

“These events enhance my experience at NIU because they provide a lot of resources and information about the many opportunities that are out there for students,” said Ochoa. “It’s one of the many ways NIU shows they truly care about student’s careers and their goals.”

Faculty and students served as exhibitors, sharing aspects about their organizations, degree programs and career opportunities. From the nutrition table where they tested participant’s vegetable and fruit intake and the medical laboratory sciences table where they showed how to use a microscope, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

“There is always something to celebrate in CHHS,” said Sherrill Morris, associate dean for academic affairs. “Our students and faculty are invested in increasing awareness of how their discipline positively impacts our communities. They shared their excitement with each other as well as prospective students and their families.”
