Marcia Cooke, associate professor and director of Graduate Nursing studies at NIU, was named as one of three Karlene Kerfoot Nursing Leadership in Technology Education grant award winners by the
DAISY Foundation. Sponsored by the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Foundation for Nursing Leadership Research and Education, the DAISY Foundation and symplr, the grant is awarded to AONL members who demonstrate a strong background in successfully implementing technology or innovation strategies and who articulate a clear vision for the future impact of their work on patient care.
Cooke said she plans to use the granted funds to attend the 2027 American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA) Annual Conference in San Francisco, to expand her knowledge of how nurse leaders are successfully integrating technology into clinical practice, quality improvement and healthcare transformation.
“This is an exciting opportunity to strengthen my knowledge while extending that learning to the graduate nursing students and practicing nurse leaders I work with,” Cooke said. “Healthcare technology will continue to change, and I believe nurses must be prepared not simply to use new technologies, but to evaluate how they can improve quality, safety, and patient care. I am grateful for the opportunity to bring what I learn back to the nurses and nurse leaders who are leading change in healthcare.”
