Researchers to Know

Shondra Clay, chair, School of Preventive and Applied Health, was named as a part of the 2026 Researchers to Know class by the  Illinois Science & Technology Coalition (ISTC). The annual initiative shines a spotlight on faculty across Illinois whose work is shaping the future of innovation.

Researchers are chosen for “actively translating research into real-world solutions, forging cross-sector partnerships, mentoring future innovators, and driving inclusive progress across the state.” Clay is one of 12 outstanding researchers whose expertise spans disciplines—from health and sustainability to data science, education, and beyond.

“I am honored by this recognition,” said Clay. “My goal has always been to conduct research that is meaningful and positively impacts our communities. Because this work is never done alone, I am especially grateful to my colleagues, students, and research collaborators who have made and continue to make this work possible.”
