Hospitality and Tourism Management Mentor of the Year named

Based on students’ mentor evaluation reports and survey, Racheal DeMoss is named as “2016-2017 mentor of the year.”

DeMoss is in her fourth year as a meeting and trade show planner at CDW in Chicago. She plans and executes approximately 50 events per year across the country; ranging from social receptions for customers to trade shows booths as large as 4,000 square feet. In addition to event execution, DeMoss also supports her team in training new coworkers and building a booth staff training program to ensure her teams are well versed in working with customers in the exhibit space.  DeMoss is a member of CDW’s Women’s Opportunity Network and also has previous experience in selling and planning social and corporate events for clients at Hyatt and Marriott.

DeMoss is an alumna of Hospitality program at NIU and volunteers as an advisor to her sorority at NIU. She enjoys working with the women to help them prepare for life after graduation and learn about all the networking and professional opportunities available within the NIU and sorority alumni network.

Madison Ballou, DeMoss’s mentee, truly appreciates to have a wonderful mentor who made it possible for her to see all aspects of the meeting industry. One of the most valuable experiences she has gained from the mentor program was that she had an opportunity to attend the tradeshow that Racheal was a part of. Such experience provides her to improve her professional skills in her career filed and networking opportunities with industry professionals who could potentially offer her internship/career opportunities.
