College of Health and Human Sciences has welcomed several new faculty members.
Nicole Bettin, DPT, clinical Assistant Professor, Physical Therapy: Bettin is co-director of clinical education and will collaborate with clinical assistant professor Dawn Brown on student placements. A 2012 DPT graduate of Northwestern University, Bettin has facilitated more than 50 student observation experiences, and is certified in wound care.
Russ Carter, Ph.D, Clinical Professor, Physical Therapy. Carter was the chair of the department of physical therapy at Governors State University prior to coming to NIU. His clinical practice focuses largely on persons who had neurological-based movement disorders, especially children with cerebral palsy.
Marcia Cooke, DNP, Assistant Professor, Nursing. Cooke previously worked as Director of Clinical Quality, Health Research and Educational Trust at the American Hospital Association. Her scholarly interest is teamwork and communication in healthcare risk management. Additionally she is part of the Blackfoot Volunteer Medical Corps.
Mary Hintzsche, DNP, Clinical Assistant Professor, Nursing. A family nurse practitioner, Hintzsche comes from an emergency/trauma nursing background. Her scholarly interest is in healthcare systems quality improvement.
Josephine Ebomoyi, Ph.D, Assistant Professor, Medical Laboratory Sciences. Ebomoyi’s research interests include HPV awareness and hospital acquired pneumonia.
Thao Griffith, Ph.D, Assistant Professor, Nursing. Griffith’s experience includes work at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Her research area is oral feeding efficiency in pre-term infants.
Kathryn Mazurek, Assistant Professor, Health Studies. Mazurek, who was a former research assistant professor, research areas include mental health, substance abuse treatment, and population-based surveys.
Lindsey Munguia, RN, Graduate Internship Coordinator, Nursing. Previously, Munguia was a clinical informatics educator at SwedishAmerican Hospital.
Cynthia Nelson, Research Associate, Health Studies. Nelson will work with the School of Health Studies on the behavioral risk factor surveillance system.
U.S. Army Major Karl M. Nilsen, chair, Military Science. Nilsen’s service includes roles at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and the Army Pacific Command in Hawaii. An aviation officer, he is qualified to operate three Army helicopters.
Nancy Petges, EdD, Assistant Professor. Petges, a former faculty member at Aurora University, also has a backgournd in neonatal nursing. She is interested in curriculum development and assessment.
Charles Pudrith, Ph.D, Assistant Professor, Audiology. An audiologist from the Detroit area, Pudrith studies the genetics of reactive oxygen specials metabolism in acquired sensorineural hearing loss. He is specifically interested in working with musicians.
Agesilaos (Eli) Vasilopoulis, Research Associate, Health Studies. Vasilopoulis will work with the School of Health Studies on the behavioral risk factor surveillance system.
U.S. Army Master Sergeant Christopher Young, senior military instructor, Military Sciences. Young’s 19 years of military experience includes serving as a Brigade Equal Opportunity Advisor for 4,800 soldiers. He serves as the Color Guard and Mission (mascot) Support Team Advisor.
Noel Ysasi, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Rehabilitation Counseling: Ysasi has been teaching in higher education for more than a decade. His research interests focus on military and veterans, psychosocial aspects of disability, and forensic rehabilitation.
