The School of Nursing was one of several stops for high school students participating in the Career Explorations STEM Camp at NIU July 30-Aug. 4. The camp offers exploration of four fields during this session, to include health sciences. Students get a chance to explore what it takes to become physical therapists, lab technicians, cancer researchers, audiologists, doctors and, of course, nurses. About 35 students spent time in the NIU School of Nursing Simulation and Skills Lab learning about the nursing profession and learning with some of the high-tech devices used in educating a future nurse today. Students interacted with, and cared for, human patient simulators, both adult and infant, and used ear and eye examination simulators to get a feel for the tasks nurses routinely perform.
