Thanks to a donation from Jakob Awender ’15, graduate of NIU’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program, 14 PT students were able to attend the American Physical Therapy Association’s national Combined Sections Meeting in New Orleans recently.

This important meeting brings together different sections of the physical therapy association such as pediatrics, sports, neurology, cardiovascular, and pelvic health. Last year only one student was able to attend. But, thanks to Awender’s donation, more were able to make the trip. Additionally, two recent NIU graduates, Kayla Epperson ’16, and Katie Baker ’16, presented research they conducted with NIU clinical assistant professor Brynn Nahlik, and assistant professor Christina Odeh,  “Getting BIG in the Community,” a group exercise program for persons with Parkinson’s disease.

Also at the conference, NIU physical therapy faculty Dawn Brown was recognized for being a Board Certified Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. She joins two other faculty members who are board certified ( Odeh, Pediatric Certified Specialist, and Nahlik, Sports Certified Specialist).
