A school-record 11 members of the Northern Illinois University gymnastics team have been named to the 2020 Academic All-MAC Gymnastics Team announced by the Mid-American Conference Wednesday.

For the second consecutive year, NIU had a school-record 11 student-athletes earn Academic All-MAC honor. That number ranked second among all MAC gymnastics programs in 2020. To qualify for Academic All-MAC status, individuals must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s competitions in 2020. Freshmen and transfer students are not eligible.

“I am so proud of the work these ladies put in, both in and out of the gym,” said NIU head coach Sam Morreale. “They understand and embrace the student part of student-athlete and take pride in their academic success. My thanks go out to our academic coordinators and the academic advisors on campus who help keep us on track. Of course a huge thank you and congratulations to the student-athletes who continue to set a high standard for our program.”

Three Huskies – seniors Amanda Bartemio, Cinny Lamberti and Allison Richardson – earned their third Academic All-MAC recognition while senior Nina Martucci and juniors Catherine Biddle and Mia Lord were honored for the second time.

Senior Lauren Gomes, juniors Zoie Schroeder and Gabby Welch and sophomores Morgan Hooper and Tara Kofmehl each picked up their first Academic All-MAC honor.
