In honor of Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, April 19-25, we
caught up with Michelle Campbell, who earned her B.S. in Medical Laboratory Sciences from NIU in 2014. “Happy Medical Laboratory Professionals Week! I’m currently working as a Development Technologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. In my role, I develop laboratory tests for the Clinical Immunoassay and Mass Spectrometry Laboratories. I can confidently say that NIU’s MLS Program not only prepared me to pass the ASCP MLS certification exam, but also to succeed once I entered
the professional world. Here at Mayo we often take summer students on for internships through the Summer Laboratory Science Program. I have heard multiple supervisors say that they specifically look for candidates
that are students at NIU because they have been consistently impressed with their professionalism and work ethic.”
Campbell offered words of encouragement to MLS current and future students.
“You are entering a field full of opportunities and will be well-prepared after graduating from the MLS Program at NIU. I can’t wait to consider you all colleagues in the very near future!”
