What is your major, and why did you choose your field of study?
I am a Public Health undergraduate with an emphasis in Environmental Health. I chose this field because it involves a mix of research, as well as connecting with community members to improve their health.

How did you learn about NIU, and why did you choose to attend?
I discovered NIU while looking for a school where I could complete the major I desired while remaining close to home. I transferred after completing an associate degree at College of DuPage.

Do you have any favorite activities or events at NIU?
I have enjoyed representing my major at STEMFest the last two years. I am also a member of the Student Health Organization. I enjoy visiting the library where I can get some coffee while I study.

What do you like about campus and the DeKalb area?
I like that I can walk across the campus in a few minutes. I also enjoy shopping at the cute local businesses in downtown DeKalb.

What has your experience inside the classroom been like at NIU?
At NIU I have met some wonderful professors and advisors both in my major courses and electives. I feel like most professors here care greatly about the success of their students both in the classroom and after graduation.

What is something you have experienced at NIU that you will be able to take with you into future endeavors in your field?
I have been honored to have great experiences with mentors who have allowed me to get research experience as an undergraduate. I am excited to bring my written and collaborative skills to future projects.

What is up next for you after your time at NIU? Any plans you would like to share?
I plan to start my career in the Public Health field somewhere in the Chicagoland area. Maybe I will come back to work on another degree.

Would you recommend NIU to others and why? What’s a general piece of advice you’d give to someone starting college?
I would recommend NIU to others because of the friendly atmosphere and professional support. My advice to someone starting college is always keep track of your assignments in a planner or calendar app. That way you can work ahead to get some well-deserved free time!
