NIU student earns state-wide honor

Scott Conro, a senior majoring in Nutrition, Dietetics and Wellness, was selected as the 2025 Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) Outstanding Student Award winner by the Illinois Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (IAND).

“It is an honor to be recognized by the NIU faculty and IAND for my efforts in and out of the classroom,” said Conro, who also serves as the president of NIU Student Dietetic Association (SDA). “I am exceptionally privileged to pursue my education to join the dietetics profession, especially with the support and guidance of the team here at NIU.”

The Outstanding Student Award is presented each year to one student who has demonstrated leadership, volunteerism, promotion of Nutrition and Wellness and academic achievement in Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND)accredited and approved dietetics education programs.

“I have been truly impressed by Mr. Conro’s work ethic, leadership and dedication which represent the attributes of recipients of this award,” said Julie A. Patterson, professor of nutrition and NIU Didactic Program in Dietetics director. “I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to get to know Scott and look forward to witnessing his continued growth and success.”

Conro will be honored during the IAND annual spring assembly on March 29.

“I greatly respect the work dietitians do for both individuals and communities,” Conro said. “That respect has fueled a commitment to thoroughly study the coursework needed to practice in the field and to engage with nutrition-based programs and organizations. The IAND has generously validated my commitment with this award.”
