School of Nursing students elected to serve on state organization

Two NIU School of Nursing students were elected by their peers to serve on the Student Nurses Association of Illinois (SNAI), the student led constituent of the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). The election took place during the organization’s 71st annual convention which was held virtually.

Senior Kelechi Asonye, will serve as the Legislation Director of the SNAI, and senior Nandini Patel will serve as the Breakthrough to Nursing Director for the SNAI.

“Kelechi and Nandini are brilliant and dedicated nursing students who commit their time to activities outside the classroom on top of the very challenging nursing program,” said Stephanie Uhr, NIU School of Nursing instructor and faculty advisor, NIU Student Nurses Organization. “They each display superb leadership abilities and deserve to be recognized for this remarkable accomplishment.”

Asonye and Patel also serve on the NIU Student Nurses Organization (SNO) executive board and participate in numerous community activities throughout the year.

“Serving as part of the SNAI will provide positive experiences and promote their future as nurse leaders,” Uhr said.
