College of Health and Human Sciences welcomes new and returning Huskies

The College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) welcomed new and returning students on Aug. 20 as part of the university’s annual Week of Welcome. More than 40 students, faculty and staff gathered at the East Lagoon for an afternoon event called “Fun in the Sun.”

“We were really pleased with the turn out and we had a great time,” said CHHS Advising Director, Nicole Holland. “It was nice to have some in-person fun with other Huskies and to witness faculty, staff, and students connecting with each other.”

Advisor Tifarah Jackson spearheaded the event which included a variety of outdoor games.

New and returning Huskies tested their skills at super-sized Jenga, spike ball, cornhole and ladder golf while enjoying refreshments and NIU-themed giveaways.

“It was wonderful to see students on campus and interacting with one another,” said Andrea Hein, advisor.

For Dean Lynda Ransdell, who started as the college’s leader in July, it was an opportunity to engage with students before school started.

“It was a great event and really fun opportunity to meet so many students,” said Ransdell. “I applaud the CHHS advising team for coordinating this effort.”
