Medical Laboratory Sciences earns reaccreditation

NIU’s Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) program was recently granted continued accreditation for the next 10 years from the National Accrediting Agency for  Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).

MLS students examine cultures of bacteria in a microbiology class at DuSable Hall.

“NAACLS is the premier accrediting agency both domestically and internationally for Medical Laboratory Sciences and other healthcare programs,” said Jeanne Isabel, chair, NIU School of Health Studies. “The process to achieve this recognition is rigorous and this award is a compliment to the values and standards of the NIU program.”

Isabel said the MLS program at NIU provides students with the coursework and relevant practicum experience needed in today’s workforce.

“Our program prepares students to be well suited for employment in hospital laboratories along with a variety of other career options upon graduation,” Isabel said.
